SAM

Sam is a nearly 100# red and rust Doberman Pinscher male. He was taken in by Franklin County Ohio where he patiently waited to be claimed by his owner. Nobody showed up for Sam so he was released to rescue (or the public to adopt) and we took him in on October 28, 2025. He is currently living in a foster home with 5+ dogs, mostly Doberman Pinschers, and having the time of his life!

Sam is estimated to be 2 years old. He is 95.4#, current on all vaccines and preventatives (flea/heartworm). He was neutered at Franklin County Animal Shelter on October 22, 2025 and given a clean bill of health before his release.

Sam is an outgoing, energetic gentleman. He enjoys playing with the big dogs, romping around at the dog park and does not complain in his kennel during quiet/down time. He is learning his commands, respectful of other dogs and interactions with humans. Like any young dog Sam will need plenty of exercise and structure.

Sam has exhibited some proper communication (air snapping/warning) when woken up from a sound nap AND when he is picked up from his hind area. Due to this we will not allow placement in a home with young children. It's important for Sam's owners to understand dog language and respect his boundaries while respecting the home owners too.

Foster Home Report:
Sam is a non-partisan play boy. And by that we mean, Sam doesn’t discriminate: large, small, male, female…Sam loves to play with all dogs. According to his foster dad, Sam "is a very playful, loving goofball" and a fun boy to have around. He lives with a large group of dogs in his foster home and plays with them all. When it’s time to rest, he will give a bit of a roar to let everyone know it's time for him to take a break.

Sam has great house manners and as far as we can tell, is housebroken. He is very respectful of things that don’t belong to him, but give Sam la Nylabone or Kong and let the joy begin! Since Sam is a big, powerful guy, we recommend toys made for chewers for him.

Sam can be a bit clumsy and forgets how big he is, so we recommend no small children and prefer that older children in the home understand how important it is to respect dogs while they are sleeping or at rest. Sam sleeps at night in a large kennel on his own dog bed, but his foster family thinks he would be fine loose in the home on his own bed at night since he is respectful about things like shoes and pillows that don’t belong to him.

Sam loves to ride in the car and go out exploring, and he also seems to like going into pet-friendly stores and making friends with the people he meets. Sam walks very nicely on a slip-type training leash, but right now, as he’s still polishing his leash manners, would probably pull on a regular or flat buckle collar. At some point, his previous owners likely used a harness with him, resulting in a couple of bald patches where his fur rubbed off, but that is growing back in and is not a health concern. After more practice and possibly some training, we think he could be a rock star walker with just a regular collar and leash. Sam is still learning his basic commands, like sit, down and stay, but seems willing to learn and will master them soon, maybe with your help!

Sam loves attention, but while he loves to sit near to his person or people to be petted, he is not an overly needy boy and he appreciates some alone time once in a while. (Don’t we all?!) Someone familiar with Dobermans would be an ideal choice for Sam, someone who can manage his high energy and will help him to mature into the great dog his foster dad says he knows Sam can be. "The right person would be very lucky to take Sam home, he is a great dog and will be missed by his foster parents,” says his foster dad.
