Emily Sanders, Vice President The Extra Mile Program & Medical Lead Emily Sanders currently works as a Veterinary Technician at HeartLand Mobile Veterinary Service, and has been in the field for about 7 years. Her passion is thoroughly about the love and care of all animals, particularly dogs. She owns 3 dogs which are her life; and she’s been quoted saying “I would do anything for them”. Emily was introduced to Secondhand Mutts through The Mutt Hutt, when I brought her high energy dog there about a year and a half ago. She believed that the idea of daycare, connected with a dog rescue was brilliant, and points anyone looking for a dog, towards Secondhand Mutts. Secondhand Mutts is a rescue that she firmly believe does “Respect The Dog”. Which when working in the animal field, this is undoubtedly the most important thing for the dogs. Emily is a great asset to the board because of her knowledge and eagerness to give new ideas. She is looking forward to giving insight on some adoption education, as well as new projects working directly with Becca. Her clear ability to think creatively, drive business initiatives and give my time are some of her greatest contributions she can provide to Secondhand Mutts with. The well being of the dog is something Emily is passionate about and always will be.

She has been an emergency foster mother for needy pups and says that her house has all the fur kids it can handle right now with 2 cats and Mari – but that can change!!
Alysse Boyd Dog Adoption Committee Co-Chair
Alysse Boyd is a medical professional and a long-time advocate for people and their pets. She is involved in evaluating new foster dogs, processing applications, checking references, and joyfully promotes the organization while furthering their mission.
Alysse enjoys matching people to their soon to be pets, and loves to hear the stories of success from prior Secondhand Mutts who are living the good life in their new homes.
She and her husband, Eric, love to foster all dogs. They have a soft spot for taking care of those with medical needs, hospice cases and helping pregnant dogs with their litters. They have two rescue dogs of their own that teach the newcomers “how to doggy.”
Sandy Smith, Fundraising & Marketing Committee Co-Chair Foster Provider Lead
I have been a volunteer with Secondhand Mutts since the organization was started. I have worked the booth for festivals, fostered (a kitten!), facilitated meet-and-greets and adoptions, attended and volunteered at events such as the Barkfeast and in-store promotions at Pet People, checked references for adopters, written press releases and donated to the organization. I was a board member for several years, leaving the board approximately a year and a half ago in an effort to downsize my volunteer commitments and think about prioritizing where I wanted to spend my time. Although I stepped down from the board, I never stopped volunteering for Secondhand Mutts. I strongly believe in and support the mission of the rescue: Respect the Dog. In real life, I work for a software company based in Toronto.
