BUCKBuck arrived to us from an owner who could not longer care for him due to her having a demanding job taking care of elderly humans which required her leaving Buck at home for long periods of time. After his behavior assessment he was admitted into a loving foster provider home where he enjoyed the company of 5 other Dobermans before he was moved into a quieter foster provider home in early April.
Buck is around 7 years old, a loving gentleman with all the typical Doberman traits. He is looking for a family who will provide him with exercise, stimulation, love and affection. Foster Home Report:
Buck has been a great dog; he is full of energy and is always wanting to play with my dog (and Doberman) Bruno. He does like to bark while playing with Bruno though, so it can be a little loud. He loves chewing on bones and he likes sleeping on his dog bed or on a blanket on the floor and he has not even tried getting up on the furniture. He is not interested in the least bit with going up the steps to the bedroom, so he sleeps downstairs by himself and will only bark if he hears something outside during the night. He has no problems with the three steps going outside though. He has also learned to go through the walk thru screen I have going outside. He enjoys being outside and occasionally will bark at the neighbors or a passerby. He is crated when I am not home and doesn’t mind it at all. Buck loves attention and will lay his head in your lap and stare up at you until you pet him. He is completely house broken, coming to me when he wants to go outside if I have the door closed. Buck does seem to want to be the "top dog", at least when it comes to Bruno, and that’s where the relationship with the two dogs has not been a good fit for me. Buck will gathered up all the chew toys and chase Bruno away when he tries to come and take one. He does get worked up playing and it’s tough to get him to settle down when he gets like that. He's also been leery of new human beings coming into my home but with some training and a more experienced handler I'm sure he will come around. In my opinion, Buck needs a little work to make him an amazing boy. Someone with experience handling Dobermans, or similar breeds, would probably be best. He is strong willed, and if he doesn’t want to do what you are asking, he will just ignore you. He does know at the least simple commands like sit and lay. He is a fast eater, so a slow feeder is probably a good idea. I leave water out at all times, and he is fine with that. |
