MAMADOG'S STORY (Friday, May 13, 2011) MamaDog is one lucky girl. We saw a post on Facebook on Friday, May 13th about a dog that was trapped under a sidewalk at an eastside school. The post was so urgent so we went into action and gathered a team to rescue her. Becca, John, Amanda and Joey arrived at the scene to find her in the hole which had a 2' opening if that. None of us were able to fit the tight squeeze and she was under there with 8 puppies. Mama Dog was very aprehensive to us and was protecting her pups as we tried to coax her to come. Joey was able to convince her to come toward his hand by using wet food and cat treats. Once she started taking the food he gently slipped a lead around her neck and held her snout as he pulled her to safety. Rescue mission accomplished! We then took our camera to the hole to get an idea of where the puppies were so we could attempt to recover them. We were very saddened to find them all buried by Mama Dog, a natural instinct for a mothere whose puppies are in distress, so we were unable to save them.
Mama Dog's story appeared on Fox 8 News the night she was in our care. Please note she does NOT have a home despite the report: Mama Dog was fostered and taken to the vet her first weekend with us. She is due for a spay surgery and heartworm test later this week. She is currently being introduced to our pack of dogs and we are seeking a foster or forever home. She is very good with people, shows no aggression or fear and we believe would be good with a family with kids. She is snuggly, loveable and knows some basic commands. |
