OUR STORY
With your help we have placed dozens of dogs in great homes and continue to match owners with pets with success. You may not find your future dog on our site today and if that is the case we'd love to help match you with the pet you are looking for. Give us a call or send an email to request a "Mutt-Match" form, send it back and we'll start looking. We will do our best to find you a match and contact you with your forever friend. Check out some the success stories of Secondhand Mutts.

We have limited space available and only accept socialized dogs into our program. Typically we work with local high-kill shelters and remove dogs from risk situations and find forever homes for them. All of our dogs are social with other dogs of all sizes and breeds. We typically do not accept owner surrenders or strays.

If you have a dog you've found or need to surrender your own pet we have provided a list of local shelters on our website that you can contact. Because some dogs that are found on the streets belong to people we suggest you contact your local animal warden and surrender the dog so it can potentially find its owner. In most cases owners are given 3-10 days to claim their pet before it's put up for adoption to the public. If you find a dog that you believe would work in our environment we can certainly try to pull it from a shelter and admit it into the Secondhand Mutts program space permitting. Contact us at rescue@secondhandmutts.org and provide as much information about the dog, where you took it and the date it was admitted.

If you live in the City of Cleveland you can surrender pets to the City of Cleveland Kennel located at 2690 West 7th Street Monday through Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM or call 216-664-3169 for pick up or information. If you are in Cuyahoga County please take your pet to the Cuyahoga County Kennel located on Sweet Valley Road off Canal and Rockside. You can also contact your local police station for information about strays in your neighborhood.

FUNDING & ADOPTION FEES
Like most rescue groups we operate on a shoestring budget and the cost to shelter, vaccinate, spay/neuter and feed our dogs exceed the final adoption fee. We accept public donations and private donations with big thanks or we could not continue on our mission to help homeless dogs. If you would like to make a charitable donation you can do so online through paypal or send a check to:
